IBPS photo, signature, thumb impression and declaration sizes

By the Fusion Office team · Updated

Quick answer

IBPS PO and Clerk applications ask for four JPG files: a photo (200 × 230 pixels, 20–50 KB), a signature (140 × 60 pixels, 10–20 KB), a left thumb impression (240 × 240 pixels, 20–50 KB) and a handwritten declaration (800 × 400 pixels, 50–100 KB), plus a live photo taken during the application. Resize image sets the pixels and the KB limit together.

The four files

  • Photograph: 200 × 230 pixels preferred, 20–50 KB, JPG. Recent, colour, light background.
  • Signature: 140 × 60 pixels, 10–20 KB, JPG. Black ink on white paper, not in capital letters.
  • Left thumb impression: 240 × 240 pixels (scanned at 200 DPI, about 3 × 3 cm), 20–50 KB, JPG. Black or blue ink on white paper.
  • Handwritten declaration: 800 × 400 pixels (10 × 5 cm at 200 DPI), 50–100 KB, JPG. In English, in your own handwriting, not in capitals.

These figures come from recent IBPS notifications and have stayed the same for several years. Annexure III of your notification is the authoritative version.

The live photo

Besides the uploaded photo, recent IBPS applications capture a live photograph with your webcam or phone camera during the application. Use good light, a plain background, and no cap or dark glasses. Keep the uploaded photo recent too, since the two are compared.

Resize each file

  1. 1Photograph or scan each item on white paper in daylight, and crop tightly with Crop image.
  2. 2Open Resize image, choose Pixels, and enter the size for that file (for example 140 × 60 for the signature).
  3. 3Turn on Limit the file size and enter the maximum (20 KB for the signature, 50 KB for the photo and thumb, 100 KB for the declaration).
  4. 4Save as JPG and check the file is above the minimum. If not, resize again with a higher quality.

For a cleaner thumb impression, Thumbmark maker removes the paper background and evens out the ink before you resize it.

Frequently asked questions

Which thumb should I use?

IBPS asks for the left thumb impression. Candidates without a left thumb follow the instructions in the notification.

Can I type the declaration?

No. It must be handwritten by you in English, and written in capital letters is not accepted.
